The B Vitamins

Nature’s Miracle Nutrients

About

As I moved into my 40's, my body began rebelling.  I found myself getting more and more forgetful, and I'd get tired sooner – caffeine was my friend.  I wasn't as coordinated as I used to be and started suffering from small bladder accidents.  I was also begining to think I had Adult ADD (attention deficeit disorder) because I found it harder and harder to concentrate — my mind kept wandering all over the place.

Naturally, I figured all these were signs of aging…although I thought I was a little young for as many symptoms as I had.  But judging from TV commercials, there were plenty of other people in the same boat.  I shrugged my shoulders and figured I'd best learn to live with it.

Now I am not the biggest fan of conventional medicine around.  Yes, I do believe in regularly getting a checkup.  But I am truly concerned with the number of prescriptions doled out these days — and their effects on the body.  This came to a head when my husband was diagnosed with high (as in off the charts) levels of both cholesterol and triglycerides.  He took several different prescription, none of which brought his cholesterol below 300 and all of which caused terrible side effects.  He ended up quitting the prescriptions — the cure was worse than the disease.  (Side note:  we did get his cholesterol reading significantly lowered by another natural supplement…but that's another story.)

So I went on a quest to discover more about different nutrients, hoping for something to reverse, or at least slow down, symptoms of what I thought was a "natural" aging process.  That's when I found the B vitamins, especially B12 — I never realized how important it was, nor that I wasn't getting a good supply with what I was eating.  I was surprised to find that the multivitamins I was taking did not have enough of the B vitamins — 100% of the daily requirements is not enough if you are B deficient!

The B vitamins have made a believer out of me, and I'm sharing my findings.  Since going on high-dose oral B vitamins, my bladder accidents have virtually stopped.  My memory is better and my thinking more focused — far less flitting from thought to thought and not being able to concentrate.  I have more energy and although I will never be coordinated enough to become an athelete, I no longer fear falling during my daily routine of living.

I hope that the information I provide is useful to you — an informed person is the best kind.  From basics of how the body uses Bs to the latest medical findings, check back often for news.
